Fast-forward to Easter 2018. We were visiting family in Blackbutt as we had done for the past 10 years. It’s a small town and we were doing the daily walk to the Bakery, once again passing the beautiful old, unloved home with its dilapidated but oh so beautiful old shed. The house was 30’s-40’s in era, reminiscent of homes of the High Country where I had grown up. Nods to a time of mass European immigration when our multicultural makeup was in its infancy bringing with it new styles and materials.The Californian Bungalow style home captured me, I had wondered for years how the house looked inside, who had lived there, what the shed was used for, how old it was, and spent idle hours planning a fictitious renovation of said falling down shed. That is, until one day, my husband lifts his head from the paper (an actual newspaper because he’s the type that still likes the ritual of buying the paper and flipping the pages,) and says: “That house on the corner is for sale, should we have a sticky beak?” — “Yes we should!” The cliche: we instantly fell in love with the house, the trees and, of course, the dilapidated yet charming stable house. We cried because our first offer wasn’t accepted, cried again when it was, finally in September 2019 we cried because it was ours at last! Since then, we’ve spent every weekend, holiday and spare day at the property, preparing to host family, friends and of course guests. It never gets old for us, every time we arrive it blows us away. Located in what was formerly the open stables at the South end of the structure. A warm inviting space, steeped in charm, cradled in timber has been carefully curated by the interior stylist owner of the property. The aroma of old timber and winter fires hangs in the air inviting guests to relax and unwind. Entering through the commanding rustic, hand crafted sliding doors, you are greeted by a beautiful cast iron enamel fireplace, vintage chandeliers, a charming kitchenette, a generous rustic dining table along with two comfortable sitting areas. The rustic elegant kitchenette is suitable for breakfast, lunches and simple evening meals. We offer: A large double door fridge/freezer, large electric frypans, rice cooker, kettle , toaster, microwave and an external BBQ. (We do not have a stove) We encourage our guests to support local and order in or eat out at our wonderful local business. The Stables are serviced by the renovated tack rooms to create 2 comfortable bathrooms featuring, recycled timber benches, antique tiles, concrete basins. During the day the bathrooms are lit by roof windows so you can watch the trees sway above you as you wash away the red dust of the South Burnett. The Stable can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests over 5 rooms. We offer; 3 x double bed rooms (max 2 guests per room) 2 queen bed rooms (max 2 guests per room) NB An Additional couple can be accommodated in the Cottage which can be booked in separately if required. The rate is $1250 per night for the entire stable with access to the three-acre grounds, 12m swimming pool and tennis court. (*Maximum number of 10 guests per night, Minimum 2 night stay.)
